Centre for Creativity Kick-off Conference
16. 11.—18. 11. 2017
You are kindly invited to join us at the international conference marking the launch of the Centre for Creativity (CzK). The international conference will offer an insight into some of the topical cultural and creative sector (CCS) projects, from design, architecture and cultural tourism to popular music, fashion and film.
Expert opinions and reports will be presented in the opening analytical presentations from the cultural and creative sector in Slovenia, and in a series of roundtables that will open discussions on support environments, creative ecosystems, digitisation and globalisation of the CCS, as well as on comparable centres for creativity elsewhere in the world.
Through these presentations, focused discussions and an ad-hoc information office set up at the event the CzK team will present the centre’s action plan as well as the target areas and programs it will be developing in the period 2017–2022.
To conclude the first day of the conference we are also organising an evening with a business-social cocktail party with short presentations of those protagonists both looking for and offering CCS services. Anyone wishing to establish creative and business contacts in a more casual setting is welcome to apply. More>>

After short introductory presentations by speakers from the Estonian, Dutch and British creativity centres, the panel, moderated by philosopher Stojan Pelko, will focus on the following set of questions: Are national centres for creativity a result of strong national policies or are they rather a generator of such policies? How can a consistent national policy be conceived and implemented in the age where cities are considered the measure of creativity? Is the core business of an ideal center for creativity coaching in strategic planning and organisations’ structural changes, or is it co-working in product development and proposal writing? The speakers – Eva Roolker (Creative Industries Fund, Netherlands), Jorma Sarv (Creativity Lab Estonia) and Simon Dancey (British Council, UK) – will be invited to share concrete achievements of their national creative centres, specifically in developing the fields of architecture, design, digital culture, music, cultural tourism and heritage.

At the roundtable moderated by culture manager Meta Štular we will look at what it takes to establish permanent creative environments based on the model of three acclaimed Slovenian creative organisations – the cooperative of fashion designers Zoofa, Stripburger magazine / Forum Ljubljana, and the multifunctional Salon of Applied Arts. We’re interested in the way the roles of creators within these groups intertwine with those of producers and managers, how ideas evolve into projects, and how a creative atmosphere generates a real, creative environment. We’ll go on to explore the role of strong, creative environments in the development of the cultural and creative sector, how these environments facilitate the success of individual creators, and the importance of a creative environment not to avoid the challenges posed by education, distribution, marketing and archiving. With our guests Sanja Grcić, Katerina Mirović and Borut Wenzel we’ll also tackle the challenges of connecting with other sectors and industries.

Roundtable: Self-organised support environments
Moderator: Relja Bobić
Luka Piškorič, Poligon (SI)
Jadranka Plut, Association (SI)

The panel, moderated by cultural manager Relja Bobić, will investigate bottom up organisations that are all, in their own ways, contributing to the development of local creative industries sector and the empowerment of emerging creative talents and workforce to pursue their diverse professional paths. Some of the key questions raised in this discussion will be the following: What is the peculiar position and purpose of these organisations; how can they fulfil their missions; in what way do their users determine their development; how do these organisations actually influence policies and governmental decision-making processes? We will discuss these topics with our guests, Sergio Giorgi, from cooperative SMart Belgium, Luka Piškorič from Poligon and Coworking Slovenia initiative, and Jadranka Plut from the Asociacija advocacy NGO from Ljubljana.

Tadej Štrok, Today is a New Day
Emilija Stojmenova, FabLab net Slovenia
At the round table led by journalist Lenart J. Kučić we’ll tackle the challenges of the creative and cultural sector (CCS) in the digital age. We’ll present the context and good practices of the Slovenian cultural and creative sector and the media in a globalised and digitised world. With our guests Matej Gregorčič from the music startup Viberate, Emilija Stojmenova Duh from the FabLab network Slovenia, and Tadej Štrok from the online activist initiative Danes Je Nov Dan (Today Is a New Day) we’ll try to identify the gaps that are emerging as a result of increasingly advanced technology and globalisation as well as the public policies and institutions that have failed to adapt to these changes. We’ll explore the options offered by digital transformation to the creative and cultural sector and how they can be exploited. Last, but not least, we’ll raise the question how new technologies can be used for the benefit of society without repeating the established social patterns.
