Rusalca in Reflection
21. 9.—21. 10. 2017
This designer project is a metaphoric reflection of the RusaLCA research project whose aim is to improve the management of water sources which are becoming increasingly endangered due to climate changes, pollution and population growth. Together with partners, the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute developed a method for additional cleaning of water with nanotechnology, after it has been cleaned in a small biologically-based wastewater treatment plant, in order to make it available again for different users such as business sector and agriculture. In this way, the use of drinking water from natural sources for secondary purposes can be significantly reduced.
Students of textile design addressed the problem of drinking water with different artistic approaches which they used to show the cleaning, collecting, storage and circulation of water. Every aspect of the research process proved interesting for the purpose of raising general public awareness, from procedures, materials and tools to key contents – the water itself: what is it like and why does it exist.
