Life after Ikea

21. 4.—5. 6. 2016

The exhibition questions issues of contemporary design abode[?]. New objects made specifically for the exhibition were created as alternatives to the generic contemporary furniture industry and – through a different relation to design objects – address the current need for “specific”, “special” and “unique”.

The construction process as an integral part of the final form, the use of unexpected materials and “technologies”, uniqueness and handwork represent alternatives to the mass production and supply of the furniture industry today. The user’s experience goes beyond the standard aesthetic and ergonomic categories – the relation of the person and object are here closer to an animistic ritual.

The exhibition represents nine design objects along with the working process that led to their creation. The object themes originate from daily life, and are already present in people’s homes – work, storage, seating, lighting and home decor.

Objects were made at workshop as part of a seminar by Vasa Perović at the Faculty of Architecture University of Ljubljana in November 2015.
