As its contribution to the celebration of the centennial of the University of Ljubljana, the Chair of Textiles and Fashion Design at the Department of Textiles, Graphic Arts and Design of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana, Centre for Creativity and Museum of Architecture and Design presents the first retrospective exhibition of selected works of textile and fashion design graduates. The exhibition, which could be seen as the first retrospective compilation of contemporary Slovenian fashion designers, offers an insight into the exceptional scope and breadth of the creative efforts invested by the selected authors, their impact on Slovenian fashion and textile design and its embeddedness in the local and international environment.

 

Contemporary Slovenian fashion and textile design is a very young discipline. Its development has been shaped to a great extent by the Chair of Textiles and Fashion Design of the University of Ljubljana, where all of the leading Slovenian designers learned their skills. The conceptual exhibition offers an insight into the recent history of fashion and textile design through selected projects and authors that represent certain milestones in the establishment of contemporary Slovenian fashion.

 

The exhibition marks the first step in documenting and recognising modern Slovenian fashion and textile design as an important branch of our creative industries. The key actors of the exhibition (the former students) are the designers, both those working in Slovenia and those who have successfully swapped the local arena for the larger and highly demanding global fashion industry. These Creators are pioneers, prominent role models or young enthusiasts who have created, co-shaped or otherwise left an indelible mark on the Slovenian fashion ecosystem.

 

The exhibition represents a diverse survey of work by more than 70 graduates and masters in textile and fashion design, all of them successfully working at one time or another in various creative spheres: fashion design, textile design, fashion accessories, costume design, textile arts, fashion video, styling.

 

The visual identity was designed in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana.

 

Open from May to September 2019 and featuring a number of events the exhibition will offer both domestic and foreign visitors an insight into the diversity, breadth, creative potential and markedly short history of Slovenian fashion and textile design.
