The student design workshop ‘At Home With Concrete’ was organized in partnership with the Museum of Architecture and Design in Ljubljana, Salonit Anhovo, and technology company Zevnik Lab from Kranj, which deals with the implementation of research into contemporary types of concrete. The design workshop was organized following the initiative of MAO Ljubljana and Salonit Anhovo. The workshop explores the possibilities of concrete as a tactile material for smaller, everyday objects that ‘inhabit’ our homes. Studets researched various production methods of ‘home’ products – from simple and ‘primitive’ to high-tech ones – which affect different characteristics of products. Twentyone students from 2nd to 5th year attended the workshop and developed over 20 designs. We selected 12 products with the most potential for possible implementation. The series of products consists of tables, lighting, tableware, board games, chess set, coathangers, and storage niches, which, through their interac – tion with other everyday items, give new and specific character to our homes. The results of the student architecture workshop and the process that brought us here – the route of cement from the quarry, through the design phase at the Faculty of Architecture and to the workshop – are presented at the Museum of Architecture. The still life of arranged concrete objects is followed by show a ‘cutout’ of the workshop with prototypes, mockups, and moulds, and by the videos from the quarry and workshop, and finishes with a short video of a concrete ‘landscape’ of objects.
