Nanotourism on Vienna Design Week 2018
28. 9.—7. 10. 2018
Nanotourism is a constructed term describing a creative critique to the current environmental, social and economic downsides of mass-tourism. It is defined as a site-specific, participatory, locally oriented and bottom-up alternative, operating as a tool to stimulate mutual interaction between provider and user by co-creation or exchange of knowledge. Ultimately, it stretches beyond tourism: it is more an attitude to improve specific everyday environments and a strategy to open up new local economies.
The exhibition will showcase the diverse output of the many collaborating designers, architects and institutions from around the world who have dealt with the topic of nanotourism since its conception in 2014 by the AA nanotourism Visiting School and BIO 50 – Biennial of Design in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
