Titled Home@Arsenale, the curators conceived the concept of residential structures that will operate as a platform for exploring the concepts of home and living during the Exhibition. As explained by Tina Gregorič and Aljoša Dekleva:
»Structures for living are our predominant environment. Since the beginning of mankind they construct our worlds and they fulfil the basics for human existence. Yet, they should aim beyond securing mere survival to provide conditions for a meaningful life.
Continuing from a decade of research and design in architecture that acts relevant to improve life, the project will be exploring the topics of home and habitat. Definitions of home have been continuously questioned and challenged within diverse historical and contemporary settings.
With accentuated and proliferated mobility in today’s information driven society, the notion of home needs readdressing. What defines home today, when everyone can be anywhere and connected to everything all of the time? Is home were the library is, or is the library where the home is?
Any proposal of new structures for living should start with the questions: When do we really need to build more? When should we rethink and inhabit existing structures? How could architectural creativity overcome the standards of Existenzminimum to propose contemporary forms of compact living?
The pavilion’s installation Home@Arsenale will reflect Dekleva Gregoric architects’ thinking and making of architecture that underlines the social position, material manifestation and legacy of architecture. The user’s experience and participation will continue to be the central objective.
Series of practising architects, architecture and design critics and activists from different cultural backgrounds will be invited to inhabit the pavilion’s installation and to share their expertise and experience on the topics of home and habitat in order to build the library of collective knowledge for mutual benefit.«
