Italian Design Day Lecture

We are delighted to announce that Marco Sammicheli will be giving a lecture at this year’s 28th Biennial of Design Ljubljana (BIO 28),  organized by the Museum of Architecture and Design in collaboration with the Centre for Creativity.

Titled “Collections, Policies, and Programs: Triennale Milano and Its Design Diplomacy,” Sammicheli will present the direction of the upcoming Triennale Milano 2025, Inequalities, and share his insights into contemporary museum collections. He will also explore the profound influence of the renowned Italian designer Carlo Mollino on the evolution of design.

The lecture will take place at the ISIS Gallery, one of the venues of BIO 28 Double Agent: Do You Speak Flower?.The exhibition space, which will also feature chairs inspired by the designs of Carlo Mollino, will provide a starting point for a discussion on museum and design practices. Following the lecture, a debate on the future of museums and design collections will take place.

About Marco Sammicheli

Marco Sammicheli is the Curator of Design, Fashion, and Crafts at Triennale Milano and Director of the Museo del Design Italiano. Since 2018, he has represented Triennale at the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris. He has curated exhibitions on designers such as Estúdio Campana, Bruno Munari, Carlo Mollino, and Mario Bellini, and has contributed to numerous design publications. Sammicheli serves on the boards of several organizations and teaches at the Catholic University in Milan, where he leads research on sacred design in collaboration with the Vatican Museums. He also writes for Il Sole 24 Ore and Interni magazine.

About BIO28

The Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO) and the Centre for Creativity (CzK) present the 28th edition of BIO Ljubljana, one of the world’s longest-running design biennials. Curated by Alexandra Midal, with assistant curator Emma Pflieger, this edition, titled Double Agent: Do You Speak Flower?, brings together designers, artists, filmmakers, and thinkers to explore the complex relationship between art, design, and the coded language of flowers.

This edition of BIO reflects on themes of feminism, secrecy, and resistance through the lens of floriography. In addition to the exhibition, commissioned artworks and five production platforms, BIO28 will feature talks, workshops, and city-wide events, with key highlights at ISIS Gallery and Mala galerija banke Slovenije in Ljubljana.

The event will be held in English.

The event is organised in cooperation with Italian Cultural Institute in Ljubljana (Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Lubiana).
