Open call for FARAWAY, SO CLOSE – 25th Biennial of Design, Ljubljana, launched on 31 May, closed on 10 July. The call has received 375 submissions from 48 countries (Albania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Luxembourg, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Venezuela), from applicants ranging from designers and architects to artists, multimedia agents, filmmakers, writers and poets.

In the following two weeks curators Angela Rui and Maja Vardjan will along with translators Matali Crasset, Point Supreme Architects, Didier Faustino, Studio Mischer’Traxler, Studio Folder and Odo Fioravanti select the participants for the 25th edition of BIO.

The selected participants will join one of seven teams: UNDERGROUND RELEASE, OCCUPYING WOODS, AFTER UTOPIA, BRAND NEW COEXISTENCE, COUNTRYSIDE RELOADED, RESILIENCE OF THE PAST AND NEW HEROS, which also include seven well-known individuals from Slovenia with a unique personal and professional projects outside the field of design.

The teams will start their research and design process at the Kick-off event from 13-17 September 2016 in Ljubljana, where they will first elaborate a project brief and later embark on a collaborative process over the course of eight months. Thanks to their diverse experiences, knowledge and motivation, selected participants will contribute to seven local interventions along with the main exhibition from 25 May to 29 October 2017 in Ljubljana, as well as in the accompanying catalogue.
