Future Architecture Book

The thousands of artefacts produced over the years – ideas, projects, exhibitions, events, reflections, publications, libraries, photographs, visual identities, calls for proposals, and testimonials – have all been examined and shaped into four main chapters.

Reflections, with contributions by Giovanna Borasi, Amica Dall, Marina Otero Verzier, and Stojan Pelko reflect in a poltically critical voice on each year’s ideas submitted in the Calls for Ideas. Charts provide visual representations of the vast amount of data extracted from the submitted and selected ideas, while the Dossier takes the form of a statistical report that captures the sheer quantity, complexity, and mathematically measurable success of the platform. The highlight of the book is the chapter Collaborations. Here, the evolution of idea, through program to outcome is presented, which reveals the mechanisms of collaboration that resulted in the many events across Europe, from exhibitions and publications to films, lecture series and more.

As a special visual treat the book, designed by Benja Pavlin, also presents two extensive photo documentary essays focusing on Creative Exchanges, the annual conference and convention event of the Future Architecture platform, and special moments of the more than 360 events of the European Architecture Program. It also takes a look at the platform’s vibrant and recognisable visual identity created by Ajdin Bašić and later, in the last year, by Benja Pavlin.
