On display day and night
Plečnik’s kiosk, Prešeren’s Square

14. September–2.October

Responding to the invitation of BIO27 team Garnitura, DobraVaga presents an exhibition of architectural heritage in graphics.

A very well-known and often repeated position held by Jože Plečnik in relation to architectural heritage is that he will not demolish what our ancestors built well. We can recall, for example, his unrealized idea of demolishing Ljubljana Castle and setting up a new structure in its place, an idea that seems inconceivable to us today, as it is difficult to imagine the Ljubljana without a castle at the top of the hill named after it.

This and other similar examples from the history of architecture show a changing attitude towards architectural heritage and the non-self-evidentness of what often seems eternal, almost natural. Reflection on the factors that actually influence something being given the status of heritage that needs to be preserved served as the starting point of the exhibition Rock, Paper, Scissors. Five years after the Jože exhibition of graphic prints inspired by the life and work of Jože Plečnik, six invited artists based the designs of their graphics on questioning the concept of architectural heritage.

The title Rock, Paper, Scissors speaks of the playful connection between the architectural world that surrounds us and the many artistic expressions of the authors who contemplate and depict it. They approach the content of the exhibition with their primary media, and are linked by the final collection of graphics that center the process. In doing so, the artists tread the path of understanding the world that has been left to us, and try to see and visualize it with the eyes of the present.

During BIO27 Plečnik’s kiosk at Prešeren Square has been transformed into a showroom. The pop-up exhibitions, which you can explore during the day or night, present a cross-section of Garnitura’s interdisciplinary practices.
