Nomination for the Beazley Designs of the Year Award

The Common Stove project created by French designer Matali Crasset for the 25th Biennial of Design has been nominated for the Beazley Designs of the Year Award conferred by the London-based Design Museum. Some 80 of the projects proposed by design experts from around the world are nominated for the award by the museum and presented at the exhibition. This year’s exhibition is guest curated by Aric Chen.

Curators Maja Vardjan and Angela Rui put up the 25th Biennial of Design at seven locations across Slovenia. Matali Crasset’s Occupying Woods team set up their installation on-site in Kočevje, in the forest at the Rožni studenec spring.

Matali’s project is a synthesis of her reflection on communal life in a rural setting. Her ambition was to design an object that would be both functional and symbolic, and would rekindle the once vibrant bond between people and the forest. Placed at the heart of the forest, the stove serves as a place of meeting and congregation, as it would in traditional Slovenian homes – except here it connects members of the community rather than families. Not only does the ceramic wood-burning stove keep them warm, it also allows them to prepare food and drink.

The Beazley Designs of the Year Award presents the most innovative and thought-provoking designs from the past 12 months. This year’s 87 nominees include some prominent names, among them: Formafantasma, Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), Forensic Architecture, Atelier Luma, Nendo, Jasper Morrison, and many others.

The exhibition will be on display at the Design Museum in London from 12 September 2018 until 6 January 2019, with the award winners to be announced in November.

 za nagrado Beazley Design of the year, ki jo podeljuje londonski Design Museum. Strokovnjaki s celega sveta predlagajo projekte, med katerimi jih nato muzej približno 80 nominira za nagrado in predstavi na razstavi. Gostujoči kustos letošnje razstave je Aric Chen. 

Kustosinji bienala, Maja Vardjan in Angela Rui, sta 25. bienale oblikovanja postavili na sedem lokacij po Sloveniji. Skupina Zavzetje gozdov, ki jo je vodila francoska oblikovalka Matali Crasset je svojo instalacijo na lokaciji postavila v Kočevju, v gozdu pri Rožnem studencu. 
 
Projekt, ki ga je zasnovala Matali je sinteza razmišljanja o skupnem življenju v ruralnem okolju. Oblikovalka je hotela oblikovati objekt, ki bo tako funkcionalen, kot tudi simbolen in ki bo obudil nekdaj živahno vez med človekom in gozdom. Peč, ki je postavljena v osrčje gozda, služi kot prostor za srečanja in zbiranja, kot v tradicionalnih slovenskih domovih, le da tu ne povezuje družine, ampak prebivalce skupnosti. Keramična peč na drva jih ne le pogreje, temveč si lahko na njej tudi pripravijo hrano in pijačo. 
 
Nagrada Beazley Design of the year predstavlja najbolj udarne in inovativne oblikovalske projekte zadnjih dvanajstih mesecev. Nominirancev je 87, med njimi pa se pojavljajo zveneča imena, kot so: Formafantasma, Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), Forensic Architecture, Atelier Luma, Nendo, Jasper Morrison in mnogi drugi.
 
Razstava je na ogled v londonskem Design Museum od 12. septembra 2018 do 6. januarja 2019, nagrajenci pa bodo razglašeni novembra.
